APR. 2006

*President’s Corner*

Dear Members and Friends,

March has come and almost gone and we’re moving right along to our April Showers Dance on April 1st with Lynn Taraski and our traditional Easter Dinner Dance on April 8th with the Varitones. Happy Easter to All.  Our March Membership meeting was extended to two hours to accommodate the slow and tedious process of reviewing our By-Laws changes, painstakingly prepared by the By-Laws Committee consisting of John Twarog, Paul Chojnacki, Henrietta Nemecek, Dennis Pachura and Frank Kanios. Ultimately most of the changes were accepted and approved as suggested by the committee and the revised By-Laws will be printed and available for distribution very soon. Our thanks to Chairman John Twarog and the entire By-Laws Committee for your diligence and time spent in fulfilling your obligation.

To honor all Irish people and their rich and colorful heritage, on March 17th, the Pulaski Club hosted a rare Friday eve dance, to honor St. Patrick's Day.  The turnout was great and some folks were still rolling in at 8 PM even though the announced starting time was 5 PM.  Most attendees wore the traditional shamrock green as Sam Pecorilla and his band played the standards and some very special Irish tunes which all present enjoyed.  Our own Stan Mardeusz sang a couple traditional Irish songs which automatically qualified him for membership in the Irish-American Club - we think?!  Well, maybe not!

Olena Sowirko, a 13 year old student from the Nicolaus Copernicus Polish Language School, danced the traditional Irish tap dance to everyone's delight. Our thanks go out to Olena and her mother for bringing her out to entertain us.  Frank Tomaszkowicz, along with a few dedicated volunteers, served the traditional "Corned Beef 'n Cabbage" along with stewed potatoes and carrots.  One of our guests, certainly a connoisseur, commented that horse reddish was supposed to be part of the traditional meal.  Well - we'll work on that for next year. Tom O’Loughlin, a member of our Board of Directors and a proud Irish-American, was the first to be served his dinner, as a gesture honoring his heritage.

Halina Kosinski and Carol Monczka did a splendid job decorating each table with a handmade cutout of a Shamrock and beautiful green carnation arrangement.  Thanks to all our volunteers for your dedication and to all the attendees for supporting our functions.

Casimir Kosinski, President

DID YOU KNOW; - It almost seemed like a miracle to Haldis Hanak when she turned on her kitchen faucet and found the water had turned into beer. Two flights down, employees and customers at the Big Tower Bar were horrified when water poured out of the beer taps. By an improbable feat of clumsy plumbing, someone at the bar in Kristiandsund, in western Minnasota, had accidentally hooked the beer hoses to the water pipes for Hanak’s apartment. "We had settled down for a cozy Saturday evening, had a nice dinner, and I was just going to clean up a little," Hanak, 50, said Monday. "I turned on the kitchen faucet and beer came out." Hanak said the beer was flat and not tempting, even in a State where a half-pint can cost about $2.75 in grocery stores. F.C. Proszowski of the local beer distributor said he instructed bartenders by telephone how to reconnect the pipes. "The water and beer pipes do touch each other, but you have to be really creative to connect them together," he said. Hanak joked about having the pub send up free brew for her next party. "But maybe it would be easier if they just invited me down for a beer," she said.
