DECEMBER 2007

*President’s Corner*

Dear Members and Friends,

I do hope that you didn’t overdo it on the Thanksgiving meal and have left some room for Christmas food.  As we do each year, we will have our traditional Christmas Buffet Dinner on December 9, 2007 from 1-3pm, and then John Filipczak & the Arizona Classics will entertain us from 3-7pm.  Please plan on attending and do make your reservations for food.  If a reserved table is needed for your group, also call to reserve that table.

We held our Election during the November meeting and have moved around a few familiar names to different functions.  We also elected or appointed a few more to the vacancies which resulted.  Here are the details:

Diana O’Loughlin has agreed to stay on for one more year as our Financial Secretary.  Bob Keith and Cindy Lofgreen have resigned their respective offices on the Board of Trustees and as the Recording Secretary, and both were elected to the Board of Directors.  Paul Chojnacki has resigned his office of Sgt. At Arms and was elected to the Board of Trustees.  Shane Prosser was re-elected to the Board of Trustees for a three year term, and Danuta Ochocki was appointed to the vacated Recording Secretary’s office.  Wieslaw Ochocki was appointed to the Sgt. At Arms office.  Re-elected to another three-year term was David Bonczkiewicz on the Board of Directors.

Congratulations to all new officers, and thank you for your service to the club.  The Induction Ceremony for 2008 new officers will be held during our December 9th Christmas Buffet Dinner.

Tom O’Loughlin’s term on the Board of Directors has expired, and he chose not to run again.  My thanks to Tom for his many years of service to the club.  His dedication and sense of responsibility are exemplary and are appreciated by all the members.

Our Nov. 17th Charitable Fundraising Festival was well received and all those who attended had a great time, especially the children who had a surprise visit from the Phoenix Fire Department.  They had a chance to tour the inside of a fire engine and to chat with the firefighters.

Mr. Kielbus of Aerospace Contacts LLC donated the MOONWALK (a blowup jumping gym), and our kids had a great time with it.  Thank you Mr. Kielbus.

We also had an opportunity to highlight some of our local talent which was organized and coordinated by Wieslaw and Danuta Ochocki with the help of Artistic Director and Sound Engineer Tom Piasecki.

Many thanks go out to Wieslaw and Danuta Ochocki who worked tirelessly for two months to organize this event.  Thanks to all the artists who donated their time to showcase their talents, and thanks to ROMANS BAND members who entertained our guests until closing at 1am.

I would be remiss if I didn’t express my appreciation to Halina Kosinski and all the ladies who helped with food preparation and service, and also to all the folks who donated baked goods for the desserts.

Also thanks to all the sponsors and to all the donors for the raffle, which included many valuable prizes and works of art.  Krupa’s Family Delicatessen and the Makowski family’s Europa Pastry and Deli donated food and pastry for which we are grateful.  Krupa’s Sausage and Delicatessen also had hot food available for purchase all day.  Several vendors who participated in the Festival and paid a fee for their spot were appreciated as well.

If I missed mentioning anyone it was not by design, but due to a failing memory.  For this I apologize.

Please attend our December events and enjoy our traditional hospitality.  May you all enjoy a Very Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year 2008.

Your President, Casimir Kosinski

FROM A CHAPLAIN’S SERMONS:

One rainy afternoon I was driving with my daughter, and she spoke up and said, “Dad, I’m thinking of something”.  “What are you thinking?”, I asked.  She said, “The rain is like sin, and the windshield wipers are like God wiping our sins away”.  Wow I thought.  Then my curiosity broke in.  I asked, “Do you know how and why the rain keeps on coming?”.  She hesitated and then said, “We keep on sinning, and God just keeps on forgiving us.”  Think about this whenever you turn on your windshield wipers.

POLISH SAUSAGE

"In what aisle could I find the Polish sausage?" asked the shopper.

The store clerk looks at him and says, "Are you Polish?"  The guy (clearly offended) says, "Well, yes I am.  But let me ask you something.  If I had asked for Italian sausage, would you ask me if I was Italian?  Or if I had asked for German bratwurst, would you ask me if I was German?  Or if I asked for a kosher hot dog, would you ask me if I was Jewish?  Or if I had asked for a Taco, would you ask if I was Mexican?  Would ya, huh? Would ya?"

The clerk says, "Well, no!"

"If I asked for some Irish whiskey, would you ask if I was Irish?"  "Well, I probably would not!" says the store clerk.  With deep self-righteous indignation, the shopper says, "Well then, why did you ask me if I'm Polish just because I ask for Polish sausage?"

The clerk replies, "Because you're at Home Depot."

Everyone should be a kid during the Christmas season!

Messages from the Board Members

1st VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:       The club’s new members were sworn in during the November meeting.  We would like to welcome Celina Tomaszkowicz, Bob Schreiber, and Jesse Watson.  I hope you will find a lot of fun in our Club.  We still have six applicants approved by the Board; but for variety of reasons, they were not able to attend the last membership meeting.

I heard a few positive comments about my short remarks regarding the current events in Poland, so I continue that.  The young generation is rather bored with history.  They get excited about new cars, music, fashion etc.  Unfortunately, the relics of the past sometime catch up with us unexpectedly.  My acquaintance works in forestry in Poland.  He quite often loses chains from his power saw due to metal shrapnel in timber - the result of shelling during WWII.  Well, it is not a big surprise, but if you discover a hand-grenade in timber you get a kind of sudden sweat.  A few days ago the whole office of the Polish Prime Minister was evacuated because, during remodeling of one of the rooms, a work crew found an unexploded mortar shell in the ceiling.  It was there for sixty years!  Not big deal – it was removed and detonated by sappers.

There is an old soccer stadium in Warsaw.  Now it is not up to today’s modern standards.  They need a new one.  There was a short-lived plan to remove and dump the old structure.  The veterans and general public voiced  strong opposition.  On Hitler’s wartime orders, Warsaw had been completely destroyed.  Nothing left but ruins.  During rebuilding the city, most of dirt, rubble, etc. was used to build that stadium for 100,000 spectators.  It also contained remains of people killed by Wehrmacht, SS, and Luftwaffe during and after the Warsaw Uprising in 1944.  Aren’t we lucky that we do not have such surprises and issues in our lives?

Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.

2nd VICE PRESIDENT - Halina Kosinski:

Dear Members, expect a lot of good things in the month of December.  One of the first changes will be the ambiance inside the club to create the new Holiday setting for our December 2nd dance and for our annual Christmas feast on the 9th, as well as for all other events during this festive month.

Our Christmas dinner is VERY popular among the members and friends, so I ask you to call and make your reservation.  It will help us in preparing the right amount of food.  There will be a reservation sign-up sheet available at the Dec. 2nd dance at the door.  To cancel any reservation, please call 623-487-9821 and leave a message.

We are currently working on the menu, but I assure you that we will have plenty of good home-style food, and then some...   And oh!  Let's not forget about the dessert buffet!

So, please invite all your friends and your relatives, and let's have a good time.  We will also have a Christmas Carol sing-along before the polka dance.  Hope to see you there.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!

TREASURER - Mary Kiselus

September and October events and rentals brought the Club good income.  But our expenses were also high.  In the month of September, our expenses included remodeling and replenishing bar supplies.  In October, we paid property taxes ($2,447.36) and also paid for the remainder of remodeling work of this past summer.

September, 2007        Income          $ 4,267.60

                                    Expenses     $ 9,753.50

                                    Loss            ($ 5,485.90)

October, 2007             Income          $ 9,084.35

                                    Expenses      $ 9,232.50

                                    Loss             ($    148.15)

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

FINANCIAL SECRETARY - Diana O‘Loughlin:

Thank you for all the renewals.  Dues are $24.00 a year.  Check your membership card, and send a check to the Pulaski Club.  If you know of anyone with address changes, have them fill out the form in this newsletter or contact me with the changes.  Have a great Holiday Season.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE - Shirley Sztuk:

A Get Well Card was sent to Dennis Pachura.  MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, stay healthy……

NEWS & NOTES

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.  The busy set of upcoming events during the December month at the Pulaski Club include:  Polka dancing on several Sunday afternoons, two Friday evenings of “DJ” soundz, a New Years Eve party, and New Years Day party!  What a way to end and start a new year!  Check the 2008 calendar.  See you at the Club.

Our 2008 calendar is in this newsletter.  Look for some new entertainment and different events throughout the year.  Any comments, you can contact our Acting Entertainment Coordinator who is Diana O’Loughlin.

OK, so some of you are offended by my taste in humor.  For the holiday season, I’ll be nice...  Well, at least I know you are reading the newsletter.  HA HA HA!!  It was all a test…..

The November 17th fundraiser was somewhat of a success  Thanks for all your support.

BARTENDERS WANTED:  A schedule is posted inside the bar area.  If you are interested, ask the bartenders to sign ya up as we still have some openings.  Or call me, David, at 602-741-8214 and I will e-mail ya a schedule.

FRIDAY NIGHT SOUNDZ… tell your friends!!!!  The Club marquee has the Friday night soundz posted now, so maybe we’ll get some interested dancers here on Friday nights.  So for Friday night’s, let’s tell our friends and get together at the Club for a few drinks and some dancing.  The Pulaski Club presents Friday night music 7-10pm featuring the DJ soundz of “Nickelcity Dave”.

December 7th is Polka Music Soundz, December 21st is Country music.  No charge, open to club members and guests, bar drinks and light snacks are available.  For more details, contact the Club at 602-275-9329.

BARTENDER:  JOLKA POKES;  Jata and Jeff had word fights for years.  All their friends lived through it and thought for sure Jeff would get one on the chin someday.  Their friend, Janek, kept waiting for the day when Jeff would get one from Jata's fist.  One day things became so heated, Janek knew something would finally happen.  Jeff edged Jata on, and Janek was there to be the referee.  As Jeff stood the stance, fearless and ready to "take one" from Jata, Janek finally grew impatient. Tired of waiting for Jata to land that first shot at Jeff's chin, he screamed,  "Gee Jata,.... Jeff's Chin's Out.... Gee Jata... Gee Jata."

BAR-STANDERS:  TWO FRIENDS WERE WALKING THROUGH THE DESERT.  DURING SOME POINT OF THE JOURNEY, THEY HAD AN ARGUMENT; AND ONE FRIEND SLAPPED THE OTHER ONE IN THE FACE.

THE ONE WHO GOT SLAPPED WAS HURT, BUT WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING, WROTE IN THE SAND “TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE“.  THEY KEPT ON WALKING, UNTIL THEY FOUND AN OASIS, WHERE THEY DECIDED TO TAKE A BATH.  THE ONE WHO HAD BEEN SLAPPED GOT STUCK IN THE MIRE !  AND STARTED DROWNING, BUT THE FRIEND SAVED HIM.

AFTER HE RECOVERED FROM THE NEAR DROWNING, HE WROTE ON A STONE “TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE“.

THE FRIEND WHO HAD SLAPPED AND SAVED HIS BEST FRIEND ASKED HIM, "AFTER I HURT YOU, YOU WROTE IN THE SAND; AND NOW YOU WRITE ON A STONE, WHY?"

THE FRIEND REPLIED "WHEN SOMEONE HURTS US, WE SHOULD WRITE IT DOWN IN SAND, WHERE WINDS OF FORGIVENESS CAN ERASE IT AWAY.  BUT WHEN SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING GOOD FOR US, WE MUST ENGRAVE IT IN STONE WHERE NO WIND CAN EVER ERASE IT."

LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND AND TO CARVE YOUR BENEFITS IN STONE.

THEY SAY IT TAKES A MINUTE TO FIND A SPECIAL PERSON, AN HOUR TO APPRECIATE THEM, A DAY TO LOVE THEM, BUT THEN AN ENTIRE LIFE TO FORGET THEM.

SEND THIS TO THE PEOPLE YOU'LL NEVER FORGET.

 I JUST DID.

TAKE THE TIME TO LIVE!

DO NOT VALUE THE THINGS YOU HAVE IN YOUR LIFE,

BUT VALUE WHO YOU HAVE IN YOUR LIFE!
