President's Corner:

The New Year is upon us and I know that we, at the Pulaski Club, will have a great 2005. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The new Board you have elected is taking office as of January 1st and several Board members from 2004 have decided not to return and a few new faces have arrived. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the 2004 Board for the hard work and diligence in performing your duties and to the members who are not returning, special thanks for your service to the club. Henrietta Nemecek – outgoing President, Jean Jorgensen – outgoing 1st VP, Ray Jorgensen– outgoing Board of Directors Chairman, Henry Spychalski – outgoing Board of Directors member, Frances Spychalski– outgoing Recording Secretary.

In the comparatively short time I have been in the club, the one thing that impressed me most is the dedication and loyalty the Board members and the various committee members have to the club. I know that this spirit will carry on with the new incoming members of the Board and we will continue to work just as hard to make the Pulaski Club the place to be proud of.

The returning members of the Board and the five incoming members who are as follows: Rose Pachura – new 1st. Vice President, Stanley Kopec – new 2nd. Vice President, Halina Kosinski – new Recording Secretary, Andrew Czerski – new Sgt. At Arms, Stella Wojski – new Trustee, will do everything so that things will run smoothly and promise to raise more funds to continue the much needed upgrades and improvements of the facility so that your visit to the club can be a safe and pleasant experience.

I thank you all for your continued trust and support. My promise to you is that continuity of the club will be maintained long into the future and the needed improvements will be made so that we can all be proud that we are members of the Pulaski Club of Arizona.

From the Entertainment Committee - Rose Pachura: The Pulaski Club is having their Fund Raiser for a Casino Trip to Mazatzal Casino in Payson on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 the cost is $10.00 per person. You will receive the ten dollars back when you show your players card. You don't have to play to show your card, but you do need to show your card to receive your ten dollars back. The bus will arrive at the Pulaski Club at 7:15 am and leave at 7:30 am, arriving at Sun Lakes 8:45 am, leaving promptly at 8:00 am to Mazatzal Casino. We leave the Casino at 3:00 pm or 3:15 pm back to Phoenix. Juice and donuts will be severed. Mazatzal Casino donates prizes for the games that are played on the way back. Come join in the fun and fellowship! Bring your scratch off's for your cash. We are in the planning for two busses. What Fun! Come relax and watch a movie, and let the bus driver do the driving. I have been selected for another year to be the Entertainment Director, and Jean Barron is on my committee.

If you see a stamp on this page or on the front page that means you are past due on your membership dues and need to pay. Let’s continue our membership drive and bring a friend to join the Pulaski Club.

News & Notes

• With the coming of the New Year, my term as club president is ending. I want to thank all members of our 2004 Executive Board as well as all our members for your support of me personally, and of the many projects we worked on and successfully completed in 2004. Congratulations to our newly elected 2005 officers. I wish them much success in furthering our club’s many goals. I am confident that with their capable leadership, many exciting hall remodeling and other plans now being considered will become a reality. Our Christmas party was well attended and the true “Polish food” prepared and served by Bruno and Aniela Klus, assisted by Frances Spychalski and Jean Jorgensen was a real treat. Many well deserved compliments followed. On behalf of all our members, very special thanks to Virginia Markus and Walter and Jean Baran for their most generous monetary donations to the club in December. Again I thank our members for supporting my presidency and for being the good friends that you are. I know you will continue to work together to preserve our great Polish traditions for after all, that is the true purpose of our club. God’s blessings to all in the New Year. • Remember polka lovers the meeting, dinners and dances are on Saturday evening this month, we want to try something new. We hope to get your support on Saturday night so you can dance else were around town on Sunday. Saturday Jan. 8th, Meeting @ 5pm, Dance @ 6pm, music by Sam Pecorilla.

• Congratulations to your new 2005 board members Stella Wojski - trustee, Andrew Czerski - Sgt. at Arms, Stanley Kopec - 2nd. Vice President, Halina Kosinski - Recording Secretary and Rose Pachura -1st. Vice president. I know they will do a great job this year along with our new president Case Kosinski who I know will continue to improve upon the Pulaski Polish - American club and one that everybody can enjoy.

• "MEMBERS RAFFLE" Remember, if you are present at the monthly meetings you have a chance to win a monetary prize if your name is drawn, if you are not present your name goes back in the hat and the monthly prize goes up for the next meeting.

• DID YOU KNOW; The Zakopane Lounge, at 1734 West Division Street in Chicago, was the site of Li'l Wally's historic concert with polka punk band, The Polkaholics. (Ironically, it's next door to the Alliance Bakery, which is owned by Don Hedeker's sister, Heidi. Small world, huh?) This tavern is located directly across the street from where Li'l Wally began his career over 60 years ago, singing at a bar called The Lucky Stop (which was recently turned into a sushi bar). Back then, this entire stretch of Division Street was crowded with 50 or so honky tonks and was known as "Polish Broadway." Today, the Zakopane Lounge is only Polish bar left on the strip. If you're not a regular, stopping inside for a beer could be a bit intimidating. But on the web, it's as easy as clicking on the door.
• In the Feb. news letter I will have a club survey, let us know what you want at the club and future events.
• EXCELENCIA School 2181 E. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, Az. 85006. A diverse community school and our mission is to provide all of our students with the skills and experiences needed to succeed academically, and contribute to society.
