June 2003

President's Corner:

Summer is fast approaching and we are winding down. The Sunday June 8th membership meeting will be our last one until September 7th. We do have a Hawaiian Luau dinner/dance scheduled for Sunday June 22nd, with dinner from l to 2 PM followed by dancing to the Touch of Chicago band from 2 to 6 PM. You are encouraged to bring out your muumuus and Hawaiian shirts for a final fling before travel and vacation plans interfere.

Upgrades to our clubhouse continue to move forward. Currently blueprints are being drawn up for our hall modernization. In this regard there is an urgent need for folks willing to volunteer their time, expertise and labor. Monetary donations are also very much needed so that necessary supplies and materials may be purchased. Most of our members are professionals with lifetime experience in various fields and occupations. If we can tap into this great resource, only good things will result. What a great opportunity to become personally involved in the beautification of our "Polish Home" and to enjoy the fellowship of good friends and the satisfaction of knowing that you were part of it all. Please come forward and let your officers know if you can help us out.

Our sincere thanks and appreciation to Scott Nelson and our 2nd Vice President Robert Hajduk for all their work in keeping our kitchen up and running for the first six months of 2003. Scott has advised us that his commitments elsewhere preclude his continuing on after June. Many thanks also to Wayne Trinka who continues his generous contributions to our raffle prizes; to members Loretta Jacks, Monique Matlosz and Robert Kotwasinski for their monetary donations and to the many others who quietly donate their labor but who do not always receive the recognition they deserve. Thank you all.

We'll be looking forward to seeing all of you again at our membership meeting on Sunday September 7th at lPM. Until then, enjoy a pleasant and healthful summer.

Happy Fathers' Day to all our great Dads.

Reminder: Final board meeting for the summer will be on Wednesday June 4th at 6PM and membership meeting will follow on Sunday June 8th at l PM.

-Henrietta Nemecek

Messages from the Board Members

From 1st Vice President - Mary Kiselus: I would like to welcome our new member Monique Zgierska Matlosz; also the new entertainment calendar will be posted in September's news letter.

From 2nd Vice President - Robert Hajduk: Due to time commitments this will be the last month of my post. I will resign my position as second vice president effective June 30. Scott will also be vacating the post of Chef de Cuisine with the Hawaiian day as his last meal for the club. We have both enjoyed the experience of providing meals for the club. We had some missed and some hits and I hope whoever takes my position in the future will have as much fun as I did cooking for 50+. Take care.

From the Chairman of the Board - Ray Jorgensen: Thank you for all your support the past six months hope you all have a happy summer and see you in the Fall with some more great Polish Beer.

We need six or more card players for poker, enjoy bingo, slots, and food. For details and reservations, call Rose Pachura, Social Director at 802-0775.

From the Publicity Committee - Dorothy Twarog: Announcements for the June Meeting / Dance and the Hawaiian Dinner Dance have been submitted to the various newspapers. Based on past courtesy from the media, our club affairs are well publicized. With the club facilities closed during July & August, I wish everyone a safe and joyous summer.

From the Treasurer - John Twarog: Some folks say, "No news is good news". I prefer to have open discussion on issues that affect the membership. The forum for this discussion is the monthly meeting at the club. Our near term issues cover entertainment, food service, hall rental, building renovation, club policy and volunteer activity. Surely, any of these topics can make for interesting discussion. All of these activities involve financing and member cooperation. Hope to see you at the June 8th meeting at 1:00 PM. The first quarter financial books have been audited and accepted by the trustee, Dennis Pachura.

From the Financial Secretary - Diana O'Loughlin: Members check your card; did you forget to pay your dues? If you see a "past Due" stamp on this page please remit. (480) 834-5484.
