June 2004
President's Corner:
Once again summertime is just around the corner so our thoughts are turning to vacation planning. For right now, though, we look back with much satisfaction on the nice turnout we had for our May Polish Constitution Day celebration. We sincerely thank all our members and friends who participated. Specifically many thanks are due to Aniela and Bruno Klus for the fine Polish meal they prepared. Children of the Mikolaj Kopernik Polish Language School entertained us with inspiring songs as did several members of the Paderewski Choral Society. Warm thanks also are in order to our ladies for the homemade pastries they donated and also to the Europa Bakery for the discount prices we paid for the sixty loaves of bread we had for sale. If you were unable to join us, you missed out on a pleasant afternoon. At our May meeting a speaker from the Hope Research Institute explained its mission in seeking qualified participants to take part in clinical medical research studies. The remodeling committee is currently obtaining cost estimates for upgrading the outside of our building and hopefully a tentative budget for the work will be presented to members for approval at our June l3th membership meeting.
Our 65th Anniversary Banquet set for Saturday October 2nd is in the planning stages. Formal invitations to members and guests will be sent out in the near future. The banquet dinner will be a semi-formal affair and will be catered, so it is very important that your early response and PRE-PAID reservations be made as soon as possible after receipt of your official invitation, since this affair is by invitation only.
Due to press release of the news letter, hope all of you showed your support at our fund-raiser dinner/dance on Saturday May 22nd. The fund-raisers really help towards our remodeling plans so please support us in this. The last membership meeting before the summer break is June 13th at 1:30 PM.
Have a safe and healthy summer and we'll look forward to seeing each other once again on Sunday September l2th at our membership meeting starting at l:30 PM.
-Henrietta Nemecek

From the Publicity Committee - Dorothy Twarog: I've been in touch with the AZ Republic Newspaper; I now have an e-mail address to send our listings to. It's to their discretion as to whether the announcement will be published into the papers. Thanks to Helen Swysz Lewy for informing me that she has a new newspaper in Sun Lakes. I checked it out and "Lovin' Life" is the same paper with a name change it was called the "Arizona Senior World".
My e-mail address: Dorothy@orbitelcom.com
From the Treasurer - Casimir Kosinski: First, a financial report from our fund-raiser held on April 24, 2004: After all expenses for bar supplies, kitchen supplies and the band, the total raised was $1650.00, including a $100 donation by Mr. Falkowski. Thanks to all participants and supporters. Our January fund-raiser brought in $2100.00 so our total rose as of May 1, 2004, is $3750.00. Another Pulaski Club fund-raiser to benefit the club house improvements was held on May 22, 2004. This one was not published in the May newsletter because the plans were not finalized until past the deadline for publishing. Attendance was low - only 48 paid tickets, including those of the volunteers who helped with the organizing and the cleanup. Thanks to all who contributed both monetarily and for their efforts. Nela and Bruno Klus performed the kitchen duties with some extra help and the food was delicious. We had broiled smoked sausage, stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes and cooked mixed vegetables with a delicious sauce. For dessert, we had several varieties of pastries from Europa Pastry Cafe (purchased at a great discount). Thank you, Anna and Bruno Makowski, the owners of this fine establishment. Mike Zietal of Silesia Brands and Euro-Arizona monthly, did all the flyers, published a nice advertisement in his magazine and made sure that the dance was advertised on the Polish language radio program, offered twice a week by Mr. Joseph Cudzich and Jan Gacek.
In addition Mike got some great gifts for our raffle, from various supporting establishments who are listed below. Euro Furniture Gallery - offered a beautiful imported vase, Europa Pastry Cafe - provided all the pastry at a greatly discounted price, John's Steakhouse - offered a $50 gift certificate to their beautiful restaurant, Jana's Bakery - offered a gift certificate for one dozen bizmarks (paczkis), Liquor Den - offered two $20 gift certificates, Silesia Brands - Mike Zietal's distribution company offered one bottle of liqueur and two boxes of beer glasses, six to a box. The raffle raised $198.00 - Thanks to the contributors and those who purchased the raffle tickets.
Mr. Zbigniew Galazka and his Trio did a splendid job in entertaining our guests, with a variety of music from around the World. From the classic oldies to today's rock. Everyone was stumping and jiggling to the rhythms and those who wanted and could take the dance floor and boogied 'til 1 AM. Since Mr. Galazka generously agreed to accept his compensation based on the attendance, his group did not do as well as the two previous fund-raisers. So thanks to Zbigniew and his Trio for their effort and sacrifice.
Mrs. Maria Frys, a member and a Realtor, has generously donated $500.00, as promised, when she closed escrow on a house sold through her by one of our members. So if you're buying or selling any real estate, contact Maria for her services and help the Pulaski Club too. Of course, those of our members who could not attend to support this worthy cause - you can just send your tax deductible contribution in the mail, address it to the Pulaski Club of AZ Inc.
