JUNE  2006

*President’s Corner*

Dear Members and Friends,

June 4, 2006 is going to be our last dance before the heat of the summer, and we will miss you until September 10th. The Varitones Band will be sending us off into the summer vacation and then welcoming us back in the fall, so come out and play.

I’ve been told by our Entertainment Committee Chair, Rose Pachura, that we will have dances scheduled for Sundays in 2007.  The schedule is not yet finalized, but it sounds like we will have lots more fun next year.

We still have several more projects to complete in our quest for upgrading our facility which includes the public address system with additional speakers, new amplifiers, and microphones; new ceiling fans; and new tables in the bar area with Tiffany lamps over each table.  The back wall of the bar will get a new display case with interior lighting, additional crown molding to be installed in the bar area and hallway.  Mirrors are to be installed on the South wall which will make the interior look much bigger than it is now.

Of course we have some long term needs, but nonetheless very important and badly needed.  One of which is insulation on the roof.  This will probably end up being sprayed urethane foam which is now bidding out at around $6.50 per square foot.  Another urgent need is resurfacing of the North side of our parking lot.  The asphalt is badly cracked and will need to be completely replaced in some spots.  All those are major expenses and will require major influx of funds to complete.

This information is presented to you for a dual purpose.  One, is to inform you about where we are and where we are going, and the second reason is to motivate you, the reader, to support our functions and to ask you for your indulgence to help us out with some loose change.  Oh, it won’t take much at all – just $40 to $50 thousand.  Yes folks, it will take that much $$!  The roof alone is estimated around $25 to $30 thousand.

Please remember that Pulaski Club of Phoenix, Arizona Inc. is a 501-C Corporation, and all contributions and donations are deductible from your income tax.

Now that you have seen what can be done, there was lots of good will from our members and friends who donated labor and materials, but it also took a lot of money, $50,000 so far.  So if you can, PLEASE CONTINUE TO CONTRIBUTE.

If we can’t raise additional funds, then we will have to take out a bank loan to make all those needed improvements.

I thank all of you who supported us and ask you all to continue to contribute in any way you can in the future. This club was built on the generosity if its members & supporters, and I hope it will carry on in the same spirit that got us here.        Casimir Kosinski, President

“NEWS & NOTES”

The Board of Directors are gearing up for another major project.  We will be installing ceiling

fans in the dance hall and in the bar area in the next few weeks.  June 4th brings to a close the                 polka dancing for the club until fall.  So come out and dance to the polka “soundz” of the Varitones.

“MEMBER’S RAFFLE” is in full swing.  Remember you must be present to win the drawing.  A name will be picked during the meeting; and if no winner, the name goes back in the hat until the next meeting.  $$$GOOD$$$LUCK$$$20.00$$$.

“SUMMER BREAK” - There is a dangerous virus being passed electronically, orally, and by hand.  This virus is called Worm-Overload-Recreational-Killer (WORK).  If you receive WORK from any of your colleagues, your boss, or anyone else via any means, DO NOT TOUCH IT.  This virus will wipe out your private life completely.  If you should come into contact with WORK, put your jacket on and take two good friends to the nearest pub.  Purchase the antidote known as Work-Isolator-Neutralizer-Extractor (WINE).  Take the antidote repeatedly until WORK has been completely eliminated from your system.  You should forward this warning to 5 friends.  If you do not have 5 friends, you have already been infected with WORK, and it is controlling your life.  Update: After extensive testing, it has been concluded that Best-Equivalent-Extractor-Remedy (BEER) may be substituted for WINE, but may require a more generous application.

ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR - Rose Pachura:   The Pulaski Club is in the process of  planning for a Fashion Show on Saturday, November 4, 06 at the Pulaski Club in Phoenix.  We have selected the models for the fashion show.  The time will be announced at a later date with other details, as soon as the committee gets together.  Tickets will be made up for everyone to sell.  In order to make this a success, everyone needs to sell tickets.  Stein Mart from Glendale, at 59th Ave. and Bell Rd., will be doing the fashion show, and there will be a first time fitting for the models.  You can buy a whole table for your friends.  This would include lunch and the fashion show.  We will have music for the models and other surprise entertainment for the audience.  We need your help to be on the committees.  Please call me at 480-802-0775 to be on a committee, as we don't want to leave you out.  We would like to have everyone involved who comes to the Pulaski Club.  Happy Father’s Day.

FROM THE TREASURER - Mary Kiselus:  High expenditures in the month of April leaves us with a sizable loss for the month.  April income totaled $7,793.15 (generated from Dinner/Dance 4/1, our Easter Dinner, Hungarian Club events, and Highlanders events).  Expenses totaled $14,081.65 (this includes $3,063.32 in property taxes paid, purchase of a new ice machine $2921.13, remodeling expenses of $1522.09, bar expenses of $4712.96, plus all other expenditures for April).  Total loss was $6288.50.  As our high expenses like the property taxes are behind us, I hope we will have a good May and June.  Have a good summer and enjoy the last month of events at our club.  Best Wishes and Happy Father’s Day.

FROM FRANIA’S KITCHENSunday June 4th is our Open Kitchen with pastrami sandwiches served on rye bread with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, cole slaw, sherbert, and coffee.  So, c’mon down, enjoy a lovely lunch, and do some dancing to good polka music.  I hope you have a wonderful summer, drive carefully, and hope to see you all in September.  “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL THE FATHERS AND GRANDFATHERS“.  Remember, “Sometimes one smile means more than a dozen roses”.
