MAR. 2006

*President’s Corner*

Dear Members and Friends,

We are going to vote on the proposed changes to our By-Laws at the next meeting so it’s very important that all interested members attend.  Most are wording changes and clarifications but there are a few changes that would be considered major.  One, term length of elected officers is increased to two years. However this does not affect the director’s or the trustee’s terms. This change is quite important and will save valuable time in going through the process of electing and re-electing officers each year which, with the nominating process, takes three monthly meetings.  Another change is to give the officers the flexibility to have membership meetings every two months instead each month. Many other organizations hold membership meetings on a quarterly basis with the board meeting each month. Most of the club’s business is conducted by the elected officers and the finances are reported to the members via our monthly newsletter which would continue as it is now.  Third, increase the authority of the board to spend up to $1000.00 without member’s approval. This is increased from $500.00.  I urge all members to attend and voice your opinion on these changes. We only review the By-Laws very infrequently and it should be considered important club business to all of us. We will start the meeting at 4 P.M. instead of 5 to give us enough time to clarify any and all your questions regarding the proposed changes. However, keep in mind that the By-Laws committee held several long meetings to review and come up with these changes so please don’t think that they are frivolous or without much thought and consideration. In addition these changes were presented and approved by the board prior to publication.  Once approved, the By-Laws will be re-printed and made available to each and every member and furnished to all new members at time of induction.

Maurice Marciniak (Mariusz), from Nordstrom’s department store, put up all the beautiful decorations and sewed the fabric drapery for the stage and the back of the hall. In addition Maurice made the table doilies for our Sweetheart’s Dance from fabric donated by Nordstrom’s. Maurice, through Zbigniew Galazka, notified us when Nordstrom’s was selling their store decorations and we bought them for a very reasonable price. In addition, Maurice one of our newest members. Thank you Maurice and Zbigniew.  Please attend our club functions – we need your support

I will keep you posted in the newsletter.  If you have any questions on this, please contact Rose Pachura 480-802-0775.

DID YOU KNOW; A Chicago man arrested for alleged burglary picked his victims by sniffing women's homes for expensive perfume, police said Wednesday.  Jacek Gudzowaty, 46, sniffed at the doors of potential targets for expensive women's perfume to determine if the occupant was a single woman likely to own a collection of expensive designer bags, watches and jewelry, according to Kanagawa prefectural (state) police spokesman Tomasz Kaczynski.  The suspect was arrested on Dec. 23 last year for allegedly stealing three rings worth about $2,530 after breaking into a woman's apartment in Kanagawa, near the lake, Kaczynski said.  Gudzowaty told police he relied on his smelling abilities to target apartments of single women. The alleged thief also made sure laundry hanging from a clothesline at a balcony included no men's underwear, according to Kaczynski.  Police have linked the suspect to about 200 cases of robbery worth an estimated $506,000.
