May 2004

President's Corner:

On Sunday May 2nd we will once again be celebrating Polish Constitution Day, not just another day but for Poles a very special day, signifying the beginning of their freedom from oppression. This year marks the 2l3th anniversary of Poland's liberal constitution, the first one in all of Europe and one that still survives today. We salute all of polonia on this special day. In celebration, we have planned for a delicious dinner (by Bruno Klus), followed by an interesting program presented for us by students of the Polish Language School and the Paderewski Choral Society. We invite our members and friends to come join us for the celebration and enjoy a pleasant Sunday afternoon together.

Our April Easter dinner/dance was well attended and we received many compliments on the scrumptious dinner. We thank our cooks and the ladies who so generously donated their home baked pastries for our dessert. Special thanks also to Stan Mardeusz for the beautiful and colorful Easter themed placemats noticed and favorably commented on by many. Many thanks and bouquets also to our dedicated members Mary Hanson and Frank Kanios who bravely not only added color but fun to the festivities as they hopped around in their bunny costumes and actually danced the bunny hop dance for us, much to the delight of all. We truly appreciate such dedication!!

We received a request from Hope Research Institute, a firm located here in the valley. They participate in clinical research studies in various areas of health care. Qualified participants may receive free study related medical evaluations. A company representative plans to attend our May meeting with additional details for anyone interested. May is also that special month in which we honor all our mothers. On behalf of your officers, we wish all you moms a blessed and happy Mothers' Day.

Reminder:
Our May membership meeting will be held on Sunday May l6th at l:30PM.
The board meeting is set for Wednesday May l2th at 6PM.

From 2nd Vice President - Jean Jorgenson: We will be selling home made desserts and baked breads. I would appreciate some ladies from the club to bring some home made desserts. This is a very special day so come on out bring a friend or two and let's have a good time with a nice dinner and some great music by the Touch of Chicago.

From the Chairman of the Board - Ray Jorgensen: There's only two months till' the club closes for the HOT summer months. Of course some of us will be working there doing some work remodeling different parts of the club, (inside and out). We need your support give us a hand. Our Treasurer Kaz Kosinski has taken some pictures of the club and presented a proposal of some outside remolding features to bring an upbeat look to the outside face of the club. These pictures are available at the club. The floor really looks a lot better since the recoating was done last month. Have fun dancing; drink the Polish beer save the Arizona water.

From the Entertainment Committee - Rose Pachura: For Pulaski Day Jean, Walter Baran, and Halina Kosinska and her students from M. Kopernik School will be having a program for this special day. This entertainment is so special! We need more people to sell ads for the 65th anniversary for October 2, 2004. We need your help! We will be having a committee meeting on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 7:15 pm for all the members that are helping with this event. If you are not on the committee and want to help, come to the meeting and be part of the committee. From the Publicity Committee - Dorothy Twarog: I know that putting our upcoming dances in the papers are working. A few new faces at the club dances have said that they did see our announcements in the papers. Thank you Diane for letting me know about the AZ Republic newspaper at our last meeting. I'm looking into it. I have a call into the department for "The Week Ahead" column for more information. Anything for Publicity should be mailed directly to Dorothy at her Email address: Dorothy@orbitelcom.com, Pulaski club web site is: www.pulaskiclubaz.org

From the Treasurer - Casimir Kosinski: Our second fund-raiser to benefit our club house improvements was held on Saturday, April 24th with entertainment by Zbigniew Galazka and his Trio and good time was had by all. The band did a wonderful job in varying the repertoire to satisfy all tastes and guests danced until 1 AM and were asking for more. Thanks to all members who volunteered to make this event a success, those who decorated, tended bar, helped with food service, cleanup after and especially Bruno and Nela Klus who prepared the great food for the both the fund-raiser on Saturday and the regular Pulaski Club dinner - dance on Sunday. Many thanks to Mike Zietal of Euro-Arizona and Silesia Brands for preparing and posting all the advertising posters, publicity in his monthly magazine and on the Polish Radio program and for procuring all the gifts for the raffle. The following businesses have donated the great gifts - in alphabetical order: Association of Polish Artists in Arizona, Hello Deli, Euro Furniture Gallery, Europa Pastry Café, John's Steakhouse, Liquor Den, Old Heidelberg Bakery, Silesia Brands, Skystone Creations, Stefania Travel. Please take note and show your appreciation by patronizing these establishments - we all greatly appreciate their contributions. Since the fund-raiser dance was held only a couple of days before the deadline for the newsletter, we do not have the final tally for the fund-raiser. We will certainly have that information for the next members meeting this month and will publish it in the next newsletter. If you were unable to attend the fund-raiser and would like to make a contribution to the building remodeling fund than please don't be bashful. Any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated and tax deductible too. The Pulaski Club has been a source of joy and happiness for many of you for many years and it needs a little facelift so that it may serve our community for many more years. So please help keep it a nice place to visit and to feel at home.

From the Sunshine Committee - Shirley Sztuk: Get well wishes out to Virginia Markus and a sympathy card was sent out for Ed Lipinski who passed away this past week.

From the Financial Secretary - Diana O'Loughlin: Friends and Polka fans, you have TWO WEEKS from the time you receive your news letter stamped "past due" to pay up your dues for the club or you will be removed from the clubs mailing list, you will not receive a second notice. It is starting to become a hassle for David to keep adding and removing names from the list each month. Call me to make arrangements to pay or to find out when you are due!! (480) 834-5484. Please send a check for $24.00 to the Pulaski Club address or better yet come on down to the next dance.
