MAY 2007

From the President

Dear Members and Friends,

Our April events were quite well attended and well received. Easter Dinner and Dance, although a full week before the Easter Holiday and not attended by those who strictly observe the Lent, still brought in over 100 guests.

The buffet style dinner was prepared by our able volunteers and coordinated by our entertainment director/food manager – Halina Kosinski.  All the baked goods were made and donated by our volunteers and for that we are very grateful.

For the first time ever, we had a Dyngus Day dance in Phoenix, on Monday following Easter Sunday, which is traditionally the second day of Easter Holiday, in Europe.  Dave Bonczkiewicz, who hails from Buffalo, NY, and missed the old traditions from back home, decided to do something about it.

Dyngus Day is and has been a big celebration in Buffalo since he can remember, and for the past couple of years, they even had a Dyngus Day Parade. It is no wonder that Buffalo NY, considers itself the Dyngus Capitol of the World.

Dave spent a lot of time researching and organizing our own Dyngus Day Dance and, to the surprise of some, we had almost 100 in attendance, on Monday night.  Kudos to Dave and his band the VARITONES, who donated their time and attracted other musicians to make it a Polka jam session.  We will certainly plan on doing this again, next year.

We just hope that those who got unexpectedly soaked, did not think that Pulaski Club is a bunch of hooligans who mistreat their paying guests and spray water into the faces of strangers.  Getting a little wet is a tradition and for those who may have been surprised by this behavior, we apologize.  There are even a few Dyngus Polkas. For those who’d like a little more information on Dyngus Day, go to this official website:  www.dyngusdaybuffalo.com

Folks, we have another big event coming up in May. The May 3rd Polish Constitution Day Dinner and Dance, will be held on Sunday, May 6th.  Let me remind you that this is not just another dance.  This event is not only a very important event in Poland’s history but also in the history of our Club, for our Founders have chosen this date to have the first meeting of the new club and therefore it is also the anniversary date of the founding of the Pulaski Club.  The reason the Founders have chosen this date IS because of the significance of this date in the history of Poland.

We will have another feast, with all home cooked traditional foods and pastries.  We invite you all to attend.  Knowing that many of you do not want to eat before dancing, we offer a carry-out.  Take it home and eat it later and you will most likely have two meals out of what we give you.

If that doesn’t make you hop over to the club than the VARITONES band should.  David and the Boys will be in great form to entertain you.

Our Membership Meeting will be held on May 20th, 2007, starting at 12:30 PM, due to cancellation of the May 13th dance.  John Smoltz and Lou Pavlik will play on May 20th and you will be well entertained after being lulled into slumber by the meeting.

The last dance, before the summer break, will be on June 3rd, 2007, with Stan Maczka entertaining.  As this is the only event in June we will not have a June Newsletter, so PLEASE, make note of that.

The gentlemen of the Board of Directors are planning additional remodeling work for this summer.  Bathrooms, plumbing fixtures, back room of the hall, additional trim, additional lighting - all are on the agenda.  We don’t know how much can be accomplished but we hope that you will continue to support our efforts so that Pulaski Club is place to be.  Thank you for your continued support.

Your President, Casimir Kosinski
