*President’s Corner*

Dear Members and Friends,

How the time flies, especially when we have less and less of it left.  This seems more true when we try to put out this newsletter in time so that you, our dear members and friends, could receive it at least a week in advance of the month for which it is intended.
We have our bi-monthly Membership Meeting on November 4th, and it is also an Election Meeting for the positions which have multiple year terms, as is true with the Board of Directors and the Trustees.  This time we have a few additional positions which have become open for various reasons.

The Financial Secretary's office needs to be filled due to Stella Wojski being unable to perform duties due to personal reasons.  Diana O'Loughlin, who filled in for Stella for the duration of this 2007 year, does not wish to continue with the responsibilities and time required, as she wants to spend more time with her family.  I greatly appreciate Diana O’Loughlin efforts for filling in this year and wish her a happy retirement from her longtime duties as Financial Secretary.  Thank You, Diana, for your service and dedication to the Club.  We will all miss your professionalism and diligence at our meetings.

Mr. Bruno Klus' position on the Board of Directors has been vacated by vote of the Members at our last meeting, and therefore that position needs to be filled along with two other positions on the Board for which terms have expired.  I also want to thank Mr. Bruno Klus for his great contributions and hard work in making the Pulaski Club look the way it does today.  This was due to his vision for the future of this club and his carrying out his vision during the first phase of the big remodeling two years ago.  Mr. Klus has contributed his time, skill, and thousands of dollars in materials to our club.  He and his family’s contributions will not be forgotten and will be appreciated by those who will come after us.  Unfortunately his business duties and personal responsibilities prevent him from continuing in the performance of his office, and therefore we have three Board of Director’s positions to fill on this upcoming election.
Mr. Tom O'Loughlin has decided to retire from the Board after many years of service, and we are all grateful for his service.  We do appreciate all that you have contributed to our club and the Board of Directors.
Please try to be present for this Election Meeting on Nov. 4th at 12:30pm (earlier time is due to Elections), and catch up with old friends and acquaintances while enjoying the sounds of JOHN SMOLTZ & LOU PAVLIK from 2-6 PM.  We need participation and support of ALL our members.

Your President, Casimir Kosinski

FIRST VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:

We have a few people approved to be members of the Club, but they could not attend the last membership meeting.  I will try to get in touch with them before the next membership meeting.
I would like to update you a little bit on the current events in the old country.  On October 21, 2007, there was a parliamentary vote in Poland.  Fifty-three percent (53%) of the adult population participated.  Also 180,000 Poles voted abroad.  A polling station was in Phoenix as well.  The Law & Justice (known by acronym PiS ), the national rightist party, was in power for two years and caused an outcry of opposition parties and private media due to merciless implementation of the policy of absolutely zero tolerance for corruption in any aspect of the public life.  As you can imagine, every party and private media was against PiS.

The campaign was short but had more mudslinging and name calling than merits.  The winner is the center-liberal Civic Platform (known by acronym PO ) - 42%, the second is PiS - 32%.  Two other parties (communists - 13% and farmers - 8%) will also be in the Sejm (Polish parliament)   The wining party was running under "hope", "economic miracle", and "love" banners.  The majority of the younger generation (18-24 years old) swing votes went to the PO.

Curiously enough, two thirds of the 17,000 votes in the USA went for PiS.  Do we know better?  On the other hand, after the fall of communism, every party in power lost the next election, and some of them disappeared entirely.

2nd VP / ENTERTAINMENT DIR. - Halina Kosinski:

During the month of November, we will have two Sunday dances on the 4th and 25th.  Food will be served on both occasions, trying to emphasize the harvest flavors.

By November 25th, everyone will have had enough of turkey for at least a month, so we will come up with an interesting alternative.

Don’t miss our fundraising Festival on Sat. Nov. 17th.  This will be an 12-hr long event full of activities for children and adults, music, entertainment, and performances from 1-7pm.  Polish food will be served continuously throughout the day.  A big raffle will be held at 6pm, and the main prize is a Classic Mercedes Benz donated by Wesley Ochocki with many other attractive prizes.  All activities will be crowned with a multi-band dance from 7pm to 1am.  We hope to see you there to have fun and to support a worthy cause such as helping an organization protecting needy children in Poland and the Polish Language School affiliated with our club.

TREASURER - Mary Kiselus

Pulaski Club events during the month of September, along with rentals, brought in an income totaling $4,267.60.  The expenses totaled $9,753.50.  The expense figure included a couple of high expenditures.  Bar expense totaling $3,400.29 for restocking the bar to be ready for the events and rentals in the months ahead.  Also a payment for part of the remodeling done this summer was $3,600.67.  Total deficit for te month of September is $5,485.90.  Bar income from 9/29/2007 for the Highlanders dance will be picked up in October‘s report.

We need your support, so please join us at the Club events in November and enjoy.  Best wishes to all and Happy Thanksgiving.

FINANCIAL SECRETARY - Diana O‘Loughlin:

Thank you for all the renewals.  Dues are $24.00 a year.  Check your membership card, and send a check to the Pulaski Club.  If you know of anyone with address changes, have them fill out the form in this newsletter or contact me with the changes.  Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE - Shirley Sztuk:

Happy Thanksgiving!  No news is good news.

SOME INTERESTING HUMOR

"Nickelcity Dave's"

NEWS & NOTES

NOVEMBER looks like another busy month for Club events, so bring a friend to the next dance and let them see what a great time we have.  The Board of Directors voted to extend the Friday night “DJ Soundz " into December; we’ll give it a little more time to get the word out.  Any dance instructors out there, we had some inquires about dance lessons on Friday nights??

BARTENDERS WANTED:  Thanks for the volunteers who signed up for some bartending dates.  A schedule is posted inside the bar area.  If interested, ask the bartenders to sign ya up, as we still have some openings.  Or call me, David at 602-741-8214; I’ll e-mail ya a schedule.

FRIDAY NIGHT SOUNDZ…  Looks like the word is getting out about Friday nights.  Let’s tell our friends and get together at the club for a few drinks and some dancing.  The bartenders are having fun, too, on Friday night; and it seems every one enjoyed the “two buck hotdog and beer” special.  This is a good opportunity for some new bartenders to learn the ropes behind the bar.  See ya there………….

The Pulaski Club presents Friday night music featuring the DJ soundz of “Nickelcity Dave”, 7 to 10 pm.
Nov. 9th Jazz & Blues music, Nov. 23rd Salsa soundz.  No cover charge, open to club members and guests, bar drinks and light snacks available.  For more details, contact the club at 602-275-9329.

Mark your calendar - November 17th:  The Pulaski Club will host an Auction & Euro Disco Dance with proceeds going to local children’s shelter.  For more details, contact Danuta & Wieslaw Ochocki 480-612-3070.

BARTENDERCuring a Problem of Hiccups  1. Slice a lemon and remove the pits, top the slices with sugar and bitters, and eat the whole thing.  That is the sure cure.  2. Cough.  3. Mix bitters and club soda, and sip slowly.
4.
Gargle with water.  5. Make yourself sneeze.  6. Put a tablespoon of sugar on the back of your tongue and let it dissolve.  7. Drink a glass of water backwards.  Warning:  This can be a very wet cure!  8. Hold your nose and breathe.  Then count to 10 or 20... Warning:  Release the hold and breathe after counting!  9. Blow into a paper bag... Warning:  Make sure you're giving the customer/guest a clean, empty bag.  10. Hold your tongue forward as far as you can.  11.
Drink a glass of red wine vinegar in one gulp.  If you hiccup too long, seek medical advice as a precaution.

BAR-STANDERS:  An elderly woman bought a parrot.  The woman asked if it would behave if she took it to church with her on Sundays.  The owner said it shouldn't be a problem, that she could put him on her shoulder, and he would stay there.  She bought the parrot, and the next week she put him on her shoulder and went off to church.  Just as everyone quieted down and the sermon began, the parrot looked around, squawked and said "It's damned cold in here!".  Everyone turned to look at her; she ran out of the church in total embarrassment!  The next day she returned to the pet store and explained the embarrassing situation to the owner.  The owner offered the following solution, "If the parrot does that again, grab him by the legs and swing him around 5 times, and return him to your shoulder.”  So, the next Sunday she took the parrot to church; and sure enough, just as the sermon started the parrot squawked "It’s damned cold in here!".  Without any hesitation, the woman grabbed his legs, swung him around 5 times, and placed him back on her shoulder.  The parrot shook his head, ruffled his feathers, and said "Pretty damned windy, too!”

RENT THE HALL:  The Pulaski Club is available for all your social events.  Basic club price is $1,150.00; this includes a 6 hour rental, cleaning deposit, and damage deposit (refundable).  In addition, we offer full bar service, a house “DJ” service (Nickelcity Dave), security, kitchen, and a list of available catering services for your event. Call to reserve the club for your special event at 602-275-9329.

REMEMBER:  We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization; your donations are tax deductible.
