OCTOBER 2007
From the President
Dear Members and Friends,
The weather is starting to cool off, and I hope to see more of our members and winter visitors coming out for our dances. We do need more support from you all to make our dances somewhat profitable and not just a break even proposition. Many volunteers work very hard to make our Pulaski Club a pleasant and a safe place to go and to enjoy the music and the food we prepare for you.
I have a list of volunteers signed up to answer the phones for the KAET Channel 8 membership drive in December. We could use at least 5 or 10 more people to donate about 5 hours of your time, and you will receive free food and drinks. This will help our Club with one of our volunteer projects that serves all our communities. Please ask to sign up the next time you come in for a visit to the Club.
Our small remodeling project at the south end of the hall is pretty much completed. The floor and lighting are in and both look great. We’ve had several compliments from the folks who came to our last two events, and if you don’t mind – just keep those compliments coming. That’s the only payment we all get for spending a good part of our summer to make it all happen. The approximate budget for this was only $7,500. That’s a lot of improvements for so very little money.
Again, the only reward our volunteers expect is appreciation for their contribution, so let’s all say a collective THANK YOU! - and when you have an opportunity to do so, please say THANKS in person.
We are inserting a flyer for our Pulaski Day Celebration on October 7, 2007. Please invite your family, friends and acquaintances to this event. We’d like to fill up the hall, and that’s about 220 people. This year we have an unexpected surprise. The good folks at White Eagle Deli & Restaurant will do all the cooking and donate the meal to benefit our club. They’re preparing a traditional Polish feast for us, and for that we are very, very grateful. We will also have our dessert pastries provided by the Makowski Family of Europa Pastry Café. See both of their ads on our advertisers’ pages. Let me send a big THANK YOU to the Makowskis. Now that we did all this renovating and have prepared this great feast, the rest is all up to you folks.
Also coming up on October 27th which is a Saturday, we will have our Halloween Dance. We will have prizes for best costumes, so do your best and come out on Saturday night.
Our Treasurer, Mary Kiselus, projected that we’d have all the remodeling paid for by the end of the year. Now we all like Mary and you all know that she’s honest and dependable, so don’t let her make this prediction and than not fulfill such. If you can’t come out to support our events, then PLEASE send a check to help us pay our bills and continue to make the Pulaski Club our Polish Home in Phoenix.
Your President, Casimir Kosinski

MESSAGES FROM BOARD MEMBERS
FIRST VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:
During our September membership meeting, several new club members were sworn in. We would like to welcome and extend our Club’s friendly and warm atmosphere to Edward Puchala, Jimmie Lou & Jesse Watson, Robert Makowski, and Dorothy Shorts. We had six people who were approved by the Board, but for variety of reasons some could not attend the membership meeting. Also there are three new applications for membership, which I will submit to the Board during our next board meeting.
As usual, I would like to share a few thoughts about some events in Poland. The new movie “Katyn” touched a taboo lasting 50 years. The audience stayed dead silent and still for a long time after the premier presentation. The applause and tears came later. Andrzej (Andrew) Wajda, the recipient of the Oscar Award for his lifetime achievements in cinematography, was the director. The movie is about events and repercussions of killing of about 20,000 Polish military POW officers by soviet NKVD. They were mostly the Polish social and intellectual elite drafted into military service before WWII started in September 1, 1939 & the Soviet backstabbing invasion of September 17, 1939. The movie paints a clear picture of alliance between the Nazis who shot all Polish university Professors they could put their hands on and the Communists that shot or sent to gulags all the Polish professionals that they could find. Poles call it genocides, and adversaries prefer to use words “error in judgment”. Such “final solutions” bring only shame and discomfort to the perpetrator’s nation regardless of the wording and the spin attached to it.
SECOND VP - ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR - Halina Kosinski:
This month the Pulaski Dinner will be prepared by White Eagle Restaurant and Deli. It will truly be a feast fit for a king. Please see their advertisement on our ad page. I am inviting all of you and your friends for some excellent Polish food.
On Oct. 27th - we will have our Halloween Dance. Wear those costumes, as we will have a costume contest and prizes will be awarded. See you at the Club.
TREASURER - Mary Kiselus:
As indicated in our September newsletter, below are our financials for months May through August. Please keep in mind that the club was closed during July and August.
Month Income Expenses Profit/Loss
May $ 8,471.60 $ 3,870.40 $ 4,601.20
June $ 3,467.00 $ 3,219.35 $ 247.65
July $ 5,747.52 ($ 5,747.52)
August $ 899.70 $ 2,800.78 ($ 1,901.08)
TOTAL $12,838.30 $15,638.05 ($ 2,799.75)
Due to high expenses in July which included renewal of our insurance policy and no income for the months we were closed, we sustained a loss totaling $2,799.75 over a four month period. We are looking to make up this loss and increase our treasury in the next couple of months as the club is now in full swing. Please join us for October events and support your club. Have a good time. Best Wishes to All.
FINANCIAL SECRETARY - Diana O‘Loughlin:
Thank you for all the renewals. Dues are $24.00 a year. Check your membership card, and send a check to the Pulaski Club. If you know of anyone with address changes, have them fill out the form in this newsletter or contact me with the changes.
SUNSHINE COMMITTEE - Shirley Sztuk:
Get well cards were sent to Tom (knee surgery) and Diana (wrist surgery) O’Loughlin.

NEWS AND NOTES
MIRRORS, MIRRORS, MIRRORS: The back room at the Club is finished, just a little minor detailing now. A pleasing response from the members that peeked in the back last meeting. All seemed satisfied with the results. Jeanne, Ray, Princess, and Chris - thanks for the elbow grease cleaning the mirrors last Saturday. The puzzle is getting closer to completion, the mirrors and bar bottle display is complete too, thanks to Bruno Klus. All remodeling and Club maintenance issues can be addressed to David Bonczkiewicz until we vote this November. The Board of Directors is looking to fill two positions at the November election. If you are motivated and can swing a hammer, let me know we will put ya on the ballad. We now have a large display of vodkas behind the bar, try a shot and let me know your favorite. Projects that we are working on are the small dance floor area (were the stage use to be) that will be refinished and some trim work in the back room. At the upcoming dance, look for a drink special; first 15 people in the door receive a free drink ticket. Also we have displayed three different flavored wine coolers. The new “Moheito” is a club favorite.
BARTENDERS WANTED: Thank you volunteers for signing up for some bartending dates. A schedule is posted inside the bar area. If interested, ask the bartenders to sign you up, as we still have some openings. Call me, I’ll e-mail you a schedule. David at (602) 741-8214.
FRIDAY NIGHT SOUNDZ…the Club presented its first month of Friday Night Soundz. The country dance was OK (thank you Norm for the donations, we’ll use them at a future event). Let’s tell our friends about the Friday evening music. The bartenders had fun last Friday night and everyone enjoyed the “two buck hotdog and beer” special. I tell ya what, at the October “DJ” events we’ll have a Happy Hour 7-8pm drink and beer special. See ya there! The Pulaski Club presents Friday night music featuring the DJ soundz of “NickelCity Dave”, 7 to 10 pm. Oct. 12thDisco Music, Oct. 26thBig Band Soundz. No charge, open to club members and guests, bar drinks and lite snacks available. For more details contact the club at (602) 275-9329.
Mark your calendar - November 17th; the Pulaski Club will host an Auction & Euro Disco Dance with proceeds going to local children’s shelter. For more details, contact Danuta & Wieslaw Ochocki at (480) 612-3070.
BARTENDER: bet ya didn’t know that? If you stacked 12 billion Budweiser longneck bottles end to end, it would reach 1.7 million miles, or to the moon and back three times. Before Prohibition, Schlitz Brewery owned more property in Chicago than anyone else, except the Catholic Church. Over 19 million adults drink wine at least once a week. If you put a raisin in a glass of champagne, it will keep floating to the top and sinking to the bottom.
BAR-STANDERS: Choosing a Wife; A man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among three likely ladies. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and watches to see what they do with the money. The first one does a total makeover. She goes to a fancy beauty salon, gets her hair done, new make up, and buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much. The man was impressed. The second lady goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much. Again, the man is impressed. The third lady invests the money in the stock market. She earns several times the $5,000. She gives him back his $5,000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much. Obviously, the man was impressed. The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money he'd given her. Then, he married the one with the biggest boobs. Men are like that, you know. There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by year 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.
RENT THE HALL: The Pulaski Club is available for all your social events. Basic club price is $1,150.00; this includes a 6 hour rental, cleaning deposit, and damage deposit (refundable). In addition, we offer full bar service, a house “DJ” service (Nickelcity Dave), security, kitchen, and a list of available catering services for your event. Call to reserve the Club for your special event. (602) 275-9329
