September 2006

From the President

Dear Members and Friends,

Welcome back to all after a long hot summer.  It seemed unusually hot this year and those of you who go North for the summer can consider yourselves lucky but someone had to stay behind and keep the place warm, so to speak.

Our illustrious Board of Directors, who are in charge of the clubhouse and all the improvements and maintenance, have made some progress on the interior improvements. Ten brand new ceiling fans were installed in the main hall and bar area, to keep us all more comfortable and the storage room addition behind our bar had stucco applied to it and a new paint job to match the rest of the building.  All four air conditioning units were serviced and are ready to go.  Thanks for all that to the Gentlemen of the Board and a few helping hands.

Our first meeting of the second half of our season is on September 10, 2006.  We will have a few items on the agenda including the appointment of an Election Committee, to elect new officers for the 2006-2008 term of office.  This upcoming term is a two year term, as per the new changes to our by-laws.  Some folks seem to like it the way it was but, in my humble opinion, the election process takes up quite a lot of time and effort and if anyone is willing and able to serve one year than he or she can certainly do it for two years.  Of course, if anyone, for some reason cannot fulfill his or his two year term than we have provisions in our by-laws to replace that officer with a special election or an appointment.

I invite you all to consider serving in one capacity or another.  This club has provided so many pleasant memories to so many for so many years – certainly serving a term as an officer or a member of a committee is not too much to ask of our members.  Your fresh ideas, an extra pair of helping hands, your professional skills or just a pat on the back are always welcome.

I am fully aware that many of you are unable to contribute for various reasons but our membership list has many names whose faces are not often visible at our functions and we miss you when we don’t see you.  Come out and join the party – to play or to work, we need you for both.  Besides, I think that the old saying still holds true:  ‘Those who work hard, play hard.’

I hope to see you all at our next meeting and dance on Sept. 10th –and Frania Spychalski will feed you and David Bonczkiewicz and his VARITONES will entertain you and I will gladly shake your hand and welcome you back to OUR Pulaski Club.
