*President's Corner*

Dear Members and Friends,

Greetings to You All! This month will be a little less hectic for us in the dance department. After the big Polka Weekend with the Buffalo Touch we all need a little break.

Our first event in March is our Members Meeting on Sunday, March 7, starting at 12:30 PM and continuing with a dance from 2-6 PM with Sam Pecorilla and his accordion magic.

On Friday, March 19th, we will be hosting the Polka Power Band, from California for the first time. Dance will be from 6-10 PM. I hope you will all come out and enjoy the music.

We will be trying the three hour format on all our Polka dances next year accept for the special events when we host out of town bands. Let’s see how everyone likes it as we have noticed that many of our guests leave after about three hours anyway.

It is looking more and more like we’ll not be able to start our major renovation and expansion of the kitchen, during our summer break, for lack of funds.

As the plan calls for adding a small building addition and totally reworking the plumbing and electrical system as well as purchase and installation of new wash sinks to meet the new Health Department requirements. All this will come at a hefty price tag and, in the present economic conditions; our Board of Directors feels that we will not be able to proceed until we have more available funds.

I would like to acknowledge and thank Rose and Dennis Pachura who made a generous donation of $706.00 to the Pulaski Club, specifically for the kitchen renovation or purchase of new kitchen equipment. These funds were profits from the Mock Polish Wedding with dinner and dance at the Sunlakes Rec. Ctr. held on February 6th, 2010.

Please come out and enjoy YOUR club and all that it has to offer to you, your family and friends.

Your President Casimir Kosinski

1st VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:

Please, plan to attend the membership meeting this

month. There are a few persons who applied for

membership but have not been sworn-in yet. I will

be calling them to invite to the meeting. Some of

them are out of state and obviously will not be able

to attend. The Clubs Executive Board decided that

we would mail them a printed text of the oath to be

signed and mailed back to the Club. I will mail such

materials to such applicants. By the way, I would

like to thank Dennis Pachura for being diligent

regarding this matter.

People even slightly interested in the classical

music are familiar with work of Frederic Chopin.

This month is two hundred year anniversary of his

birth. There will be a lot of commemorating events

all over the world this year. It stared with a big gala

in Krakow, Poland. His music brings a lot of

emotions to Poles. It vividly reminds them the

sounds from Poland – swishing of leaves in light

breeze, rain drops hitting the window, noise of

swirling water in a stream etc. Basically he is one

of the icons of the grand piano music and was

highly acclaimed in his times as well.

Frederic was the son of Polish noblewoman and

French nobleman – emigrant, who took part in

Polish Uprising in 1830 against Russia. Chopin

senior considered Poland to be his homeland.

Frederic was very talented in music but quite

morbid and passed away quite young.

His father sent him to Paris – the world’s cultural

center in those times. His friends enjoyed his

company for joyful spirit and surprising funny

pranks. The high society ladies regarded him as

“the very handsome man”. In those days young

ladies did not scream hysterically at concerts but

applauded, tried to strike “a conversation” with an

idol and, of course, “fainted of emotions” if a

handsome young man was nearby. It is worthy to

mention that in these times the “honor code” was

observed. The noblemen just totally ignored a

person who was regarded as “not-honorable” .

Sometimes I wished our politicians have observed

such an “honor code” as well.

“BEST POLKA ALBUM” AT GRAMMY

For the first time in 24 years, there was be no "Best

Polka Album" category at this year’s Grammy

ceremonies, broadcast live on January 31, 2010.

The Recording Academy cut the category this

summer, saying it wanted to "ensure the awards

process remains representative of the current

musical landscape." As a result, 18-time Grammy

winner Jimmy Sturr found his polka music

competing against non-polka acts for Best

Traditional Folk Album. He did not get the trophy

this time. Other polka artists found themselves shut

out entirely.
