*President's Corner*
Dear Fellow Members and Friends,
How fast time flies when we’re having so much fun. The month of May is upon us and it seems that the summer heat and another three month sabbatical is just around the corner.
This year, however, we will have a very special treat for all our long time members and those of us who, only a short five years ago attended a very special gala banquet to celebrate the 65 Anniversary of our beloved Pulaski Club. This year, already five more years have passed by and on November 7th, we will be celebrating another milestone, our 70th anniversary.
Just as we did five years ago, we will be publishing a Commemorative Booklet, with articles, photos and stories about our club and our members. If you would like your name to be placed on the Patron pages or want to commemorate someone in your family or just have your picture published with your best wishes for our club, please be receptive when your receive an invitation to do so. We will need all your participation to make this, our 70th year celebration, as festive and successful as the last one.
All of us, your elected officers, are very proud of the longevity of our club but also of the accomplishments we’ve made in the last five years. Our preparations have already started and will continue through the summer and all the way up to the magical date of Nov. 7th, 2009
. We will have great entertainment, awards, great food and great music. Who can ask for anything more? Our last Members Meeting before the summer break is on May 17th, as we will have our big buffet dinner on May 3rd, to commemorate the May 3rd Constitution Day.
The Varitones will entertain on May 3rd, Bob Doszak on May 17th and John Smoltz on May 31st, our Hawaiian themed dance.
All our April functions turned out great accept for light attendance at our Easter Dinner which was outdone by our third annual Dyngus Day Dance. It seems that we will be continuing the Dyngus Day tradition that our Board of Dir. Chairman, David Bonczkiewicz has brought from his hometown of Buffalo, New York.
Thanks to our kitchen manager, Halina Kosinski and all the kitchen volunteers but especially Barbara and Chez Falkowski who have been there for every event. The great bands, the great service at the bar and the tasty food is what we do best and what our patrons and members keep coming beck for.
I am glad to see that folks are coming out to eat the great food as well as the great entertainment for which the Pulaski Club has become so well known.
Let’s enjoy each other’s company in the friendly confines of our club – and our 70 year tradition.

1st VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:
We have a few applicants for membership in our Club, who are just occasional visitors in the Valley of the Sun. We are glad to have their support but we will be waiting a long time to see them again. They paid dues and are approved by the Board and the Membership. They need to be sworn-in. After the discussion, the Board approved the following action regarding persons approved for three month – 1st vice-president will mail the printed text of swearing-in to an applicant, who will sign it and will mail back. The Board will compare signature with one on the application and if it matches we consider such applicant as sworn-in.
Our economy is not doing well. If you looked at the traditional job boards (Monster.com, CarrierBuilder.com etc) you might have noticed that some kind of jobs disappeared. Well, it is not as frightening as it appears. The headhunters moved to other boards which are closer related to the profession. The mentioned boards are mainly for less experienced candidates. The headhunters complained that for one opening they got about 500 applications but none had the required experience and qualifications. Reading 500 spiced resumes may be very frustrating. Here are popular internet boards to visit - www.theladders.com, www.Craigslist.com, www.Execunet.com, www.Indeed.com ($), www.SimplyHired.com , www.jobcentral.com, www.LinkedIn.com (networking), www.FaceBook.com (networking). More then 90% of jobs are filled in thru an insider personal recommendation. Is it more important “who you know” then “what you know”?
2nd VICE PRESIDENT – Halina Kosinski
We are greeting the month of May with a patriotic celebration of the Polish Constitution of May 3rd. Our menu that day will be: Golabki in tomato sauce, served with pierogi (Russian Style with potato stuffing) and broccoli.
In addition members of Paderewski Choral Society will sing a few songs to commemorate this occasion. I thank Walter and Jean Baran for offering to perform for us on this occasion.
On May 17th, our two new members, Chris Lolly and Kathy Forman volunteered to prepare the meal for our guests – Wonderful! The ladies will be serving the following: Hot Italian Beef sandwich with peppers and onions, macaroni salad and home baked pastry for desert.
On May 31st, we will have a Hawaiian theme dance. Our meal will complement the occasion. We will have BBQ grilled meats with fresh salads and fruity desserts. The menu is not yet finalized but it will be real good – I promise!
I would like to thank Princess Bonczkiewicz, Diane O’Loughlin, Pat Jayo and Genie Jorgensen for cooking and serving the lasagna dinner on March 28th, the day when Barbara Falkowski and I could not be there. It is nice to get a break once in a while.
I encourage anyone who likes to cook and would not mind to work a little to contact me about preparing a dinner or baking a desert. Food critics out there, we are open to your suggestions and ideas. Should we have more soups, salads, go lighter in calories and trans-fats, healthier diet or more traditional sausage and sauerkraut etc.? I would appreciate some feedback so that I may try to satisfy as many of you as I can. Call me at 602-909-4965
Thanks you all for supporting our kitchen.

· Everybody’s Polish on Dyngus Day: and yes what a great time was had by all. From the squirt guns to the pussy willows (flown in from Buffalo New York), to great entertainment and excellent food. It looks like the tradition of Dyngus Day will continue here in Phoenix just as it is a main stay affair in Buffalo New York, where the party started.
I would like to thank all the volunteers from the kitchen, basket raffles, bar-staff and the mop-up crew who helped make this event a success. Only 347 days til’ next Dyngus Day!!
We have a hall rental on May 21st, The Phoenix International Folk Dancers Group www.phxfolkdancers.org will have dance instructor Yuliyan Yordanov. A native of Dojrenci, a village in the Lovea region of north central Bulgaria, conduct a Bulgarian Dance Workshop from 7 to 10 pm. For more info. Call (480) 968-0573 or e-mail lpostel@amug.org Club members are invited to join in or just sit back and watch, the bar will be open so if your in the area stop on down, Donations requested at the door, but no one will be turned away.
· BARTENDER: How many drinks may I serve to a person at one time? The law no longer defines this limit at the number of drinks, but the amount of liquor served. It is unlawful for an on-sale retail licensee or employee to conduct drinking contests, or sell or deliver to a person an unlimited number of spirituous liquor beverages during any set period of time for a fixed price, to deliver more than thirty-two ounces of beer, one liter of wine or four ounces of distilled spirits in any spirituous liquor drink to one person at one time for that person's consumption or to advertise and practice prohibited by this paragraph. [ARS 4-244.23]
May a bar owner drink alcoholic beverages in his own establishment? Yes, when he is not serving customers. He may not be intoxicated or disorderly while on the premises. [A.R.S. 4-244(14)]
May an employee be held liable for serving an intoxicated person? Yes. An employee could be held criminally liable. He also could be named in a civil lawsuit should an accident result.
· BARSTANDER: A man boarded an airplane in New Orleans with a box of frozen crabs and asked a blonde, female crew member to take care of the box for him. She took the box and promised to put it in the crew's refrigerator. He pointedly advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for the crabs staying frozen. He mentioned that he was a lawyer, and proceeded to warn her about what would happen if she let them thaw out. Needless to say, she was annoyed by his behavior. Shortly before landing in New York, she used the intercom to announce to the entire cabin: "Would the gentleman who gave me the crabs in New Orleans, please raise your hand?" Not one hand went up... so she took them home and ate them. Two lessons here: Men never learn and blondes aren't as dumb as most men think.
· GOLF LESSONS: any one interested in golf lessons, contact Bob Schreiber who is a professional PGA golf instructor and one of our members. Discount to club members, contact Bob @ (602) 315-3266.

NIECH NIKT NAD GROBEM MI NIE PŁACZE
by Stanisław Wyspiański (1869–1907)
Niech nikt nad grobem mi nie płacze,
krom jednej mojej żony,
za nic mi wasze łzy sobacze
i żal ten wasz zmyślony
Niech dzwon nad trumną mi nie kracze
ni śpiewy wrzeszczą czyje;
niech deszcz na pogrzeb mój zapłacze
i wicher niech zawyje.
Niech kto chce grudę ziemi ciśnie,
aż koniec mnie przywali.
Nad kurhan słońce niechaj błyśnie
i zeschłą glinę pali.
A kiedyś może, kiedyś jeszcze,
gdy mi się sprzykrzy leżeć,
rozburzę dom ten, gdzie się mieszczę,
i w słońce pocznę bieżeć.
Gdy mnie ujrzycie, takim lotem,
że postać mam już jasną,
to zawołajcie mnie z powrotemtą
mową moją własną.
Bym ją posłyszał, tam do góry,
gdy gwiazdą będę mijał –
podejmę może po raz wtóry
ten trud, co mnie zabijał
I WANT NO WEEPING AT MY GRAVE
by Stanisław Wyspiański (1869–1907)
I want no weeping at my grave,
except my wife’s lamenting brief;
I need no tears of yours and save,
oh save yourselves the bogus grief.
I want no moaning of a bell
nor all that mourners’ gloomy yowling;
oh, may the wind and rain raise hell,
and to my funeral come howling.
A lump of earth, if you’re so bound,
hurl down before it’s through, and may
the Sun illume my burial mound,
and ever burn the withered clay.
But may be there will come the time
when I feel weary of my rest:
I’ll wrack the tomb and out will climb,
against the sun I shall contest.
And when you see me then in flight,
my form aglow and out of reach,
require me to forsake the height,
but use the words of my own speech.
So I can hear them, as of yore,
when then I pass a starry lane –
and maybe I’ll take up once more
the strife that used to be my bane.
