*President s Corner*
Dear Fellow Members and Friends,
We’ve had many compliments on our most recent remodeling and we received the ultimate one when a gentleman said that he feels like he’s at the Ritz when he enters our new restrooms.
That’s a great compliment to those who were instrumental in the remodeling process and also a credit to our club.
However, your contributions are not flowing in as well as expected. I was confident that all our members, both active and inactive, will be willing a hapy to contribute $100, which is a small amount, for most, to help offset the costs of remodeling. It would be a shame if only those who volunteered their time and absorbed the expense of driving to the club on numerous occasions, would be the only ones who should bear the burden for all the rest of the membership.
I am, however, thankful to the few members who sent in their checks almost immediately after receiving my appeal.
We just completed our three day Polka extravaganza with the “Full Circle Band” and David Bonczkiewicz already mentioned all the kudos to those who participated and helped in organizing the event and to all the members of the band and last but not the least, to Gene Swick without whom this would not be possible. Gene is a very special person who gives a lot more than he receives just because he loves it and after the event he even sent us an e-mail thanking us for our hospitality. He’s quite a man and a real treasure to our community here in Arizona as well as in California, where he promotes Polka events through the Polka Heaven Dances. We will post his flyer elsewhere in this newsletter and on our discussion board.
I’d like to thank David Bonczkiewicz, who worked very diligently along with Gene Swick and “Full Circle Band” to set up this polka weekend and than lent us his own sound equipment and got the stage ready for the band.
Thanks, also, to Bob Jayo who generously loaned his drums along with his prized concertina and accordion.
On Saturday, November 1, is our Halloween Dance and all participants are asked to wear your costumes and enjoy the merriment. We will be joined, again, by the parents and children from the Copernicus Polish Language School.
Our November Members Meeting will be on Sunday, November 9, 2008, at 12:30 PM, when it will be time to elect or re-elect your club’s officers and all of you are urged to participate and practice your right to voice your opinion, with your vote.
If anyone would like to serve as an officer, please contact Henrietta Nemecek at 602-955-5509 to volunteer for any of the positions, which are listed just below this column.
Let’s all participate in the wonderful congeniality at our club’s events.
Your President, Casimir Kosinski

1st VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:
I would like to welcome new Club's members - Richard Chavosky, Jim Cioper and Kathy Forman. Please, do not forget to extend our friendly atmosphere to Kathy, Richard and Jim.
As the editor of this newsletter I acknowledge receiving an article by Frank Tomaszkowicz (member of Board of Dir.), which alludes to the latest remodeling project. Thank you Frank, for your submission. In my personal opinion, the article (522 words) may cause emotional debate regarding issues associated with the remodeling. The Newsletter is not the best medium for such discussions due to time and space constraints. Friends, you may remember that the detailed report on the remodeling was postponed until the November membership meeting. Frank’s article will be available at the membership meeting if not earlier. I apologize to Frank for not printing it in this month newsletter. Of course, if I am advised otherwise by the membership or the officers I will include it in the next month’s issue.
2nd VICE PRESIDENT - Halina Kosinski:
I must thank all those who helped with preparing the food for the three day event which was the Polka Weekend with “Full Circle Band”.
Barbara and Chez Falkowski, Barbara Komar, Celina Tomaszkowicz, Ewa Sochacki, Ursula May and Henrietta Nemecek helped in stuffing the pierogi and cooking up the delicious stew and dumplings. Case helped both at home in preparing the stuffing for the pierogi and being a cashier at the serving window. Thanks to the ladies who baked the desserts; Frances Spychalska, Genie Jorgensen, Barbara Falkowski and Mary Kiselus and to the Makowski Family of Europa Pastry Café for discounting the rye bread and the apple pastry. All the food and pastries were delicious and we almost sold out. Thanks to all those who bought the meals.
A reminder that we will have the hall decorated with the usual ghosts, ghouls and goblins for the Halloween Dance and it is on Saturday, November 1st. The menu is not yet set but, by now, most of you know well that I try very hard not to disappoint you.
We do try to keep the prices reasonable and for those who feel otherwise, I challenge anyone to buy a full meal at a restaurant, including dessert and a beverage for what we charge. Oh, and add to that a 15 or 20% tip. What we are usually serving, you will not get at an average restaurant. All the time and care it takes in preparing these meals is donated by me and many others and all we are trying to do is to recuperate the costs and make some money for the club. So, please, do not disrespect the efforts of those of us who are serving the club by sacrificing our time in trying to make the Pulaski Club a second home for so many members and guests. We appreciate all the support and good words from those of you who appreciate our hard work.

News and Notes
T
WOW!! What a successful weekend we had with the “Full Circle Band” from the East coast. Those who missed our Polka Weekend event missed out on a great band and a great time. Those who did attend I would like to thank you for supporting the Pulaski Club and supporting the Band. Nothing but great compliments from the band members about the Club and the people who attended. I would like to personally thank some special people who helped out this weekend to make this also a success. Halina Kosinski, Barb and Chez Falkowski, Barb Komar, Eva Sochacki, Henrietta Nemecek and others who did a fantastic job in the kitchen in providing a tasty Polish dish each night. Thanks to Rose Pachura and her committee for their help and support in organizing the gift basket raffles this weekend and to all those who donated the baskets. Great job! To Frank Kanios, for your help and support, to Hot Dog Stash and Louisa for handling the door prize raffles, to Dennis and the Ladies for helping at the raffle basket table, Chris and Calen great job bartending the whole weekend, our President Case thanks for his support, Bob and Pat Jayo, Paul and Henrietta and, especially to Gene Swick for his generosity and love of Polka music to help bring this weekend together and to my wife Princess for all her hard work, support and understanding. And anybody I may have missed, O’ yah, to Dottie for her help pushing the Ij’s on the Polka Jammer network…MY THANKS TO ALL.
Mark your Calendar and make plans to attend their second appearance, as we are bringing back “Jerry Darlak and the Buffalo Touch” February 28th and March 1st 2009.
As we are a non-profit organization there are times when we should give back to the community, with the holiday season just around the corner this is just the right time to start. So for the remaining dances in the 2008 calendar year we will be having a can food drive for the St. Ann’s Church in Gilbert, just bring in a can of food or non-perishable item and receive a free beverage at the bar. For more information on this fund drive contact Princess at 602.312.0935.
BARTENDER: A young ventriloquist is touring the clubs and one night he's doing a show in a small town in Arkansas. With his dummy on his knee, he starts going through his usual dumb blonde jokes. Suddenly, a blonde woman in the 4th row stands on her chair and starts shouting: "I've heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes. What makes you think you can stereotype women that way? What does the color of a person's hair have to do with her worth as a human being?" "It's guys like you who keep women like me from being respected at work and the community, and from reaching our full potential as a person." "Because you and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only blondes, but women in general...and all in the name of humor!" The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologize, and the blonde yells, "You stay out of this, mister! I'm talking to that little creep on your knee!"
DID YOU KNOW: Myth - "beer belly" is caused by drinking beer? Fact - "beer belly" is caused by eating too much food. No beer or other alcohol beverage is necessary. Myth - Switching between beer, wine and spirits will lead to intoxication more quickly than sticking to one type of alcohol beverage. Fact - The level of blood alcohol content (BAC) is what determines sobriety or intoxication. Remember that a standard drink of beer, wine, or spirits contain equivalent amounts of alcohol. Alcohol is alcohol and a drink is a drink.
BARTENDERS WANTED: A schedule is posted inside the bar area. If interested ask the bartenders to sign ya up we still have some openings. Or call me I’ll e-mail ya a schedule. David @ (602) 741-8214 (nickelcity_dave@yahoo.com).
RENT THE HALL: The Pulaski Club is available for all your social events. Basic rental price is $1,200.00; this includes a 6 hr. rental, cleaning, and $200 damage deposit (refundable). In addition, we offer full bar service, a house “DJ” service (Nickelcity Dave), security, kitchen, and a list of available catering services for your event.
