*President's Corner*
Dear Members and Friends,
I may have mellowed down a little from last month’s rave but we’re not out of the woods yet and no one should be breathing a sigh of relief.
We have an event scheduled for November 7th, celebrating the club’s 70th Anniversary and we’re trying to get folks motivated to come and help us celebrate this important and what is going to be, a memorable event. We need as many of you and your friends to join us so, PLEASE, call and make your reservations with Halina Kosinski at 623-487-9821.
Although, reservations are not necessary, we’d love to know how many guests to expect so that we can properly prepare.
It looks like the dance group from Los Angeles, which graced our 65th Anniversary event will be coming over to perform and that, alone, is worth the price of admission. So, I encourage everyone to be part of our birthday party, so to speak. I know that you all love a birthday party!
In addition, we are offering a free drink coupon for all members as a bonus for your loyalty to our club.
The Polka Weekend with The Knews, from Buffalo, NY went very well but we sure could have used some more of you folks there. The band did a great job, the ladies who prepared the silent auction and those who donated items, thank you for all your effort and generosity.
The kitchen and staff made great food and the bartenders served the drinks very efficiently. Thanks to all including David Bonczkiewicz and Gene Swick for making this another successful event.
On Nov. 15th, we will have our Membership Meeting and elections will be held for 3 positions only. Please call John Twarog, the nominating committee chair if you’d like to volunteer for any of the open positions or would like to nominate someone whom you know to be willing to serve.
It is my honor to serve the club and YOU, the members, as president and I know that every one of the officers feels the same.
Please support our events by coming out and enjoying our great club and our great bands.
Casimir Kosinski, Your president

1st VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:
We would like to swear-in new Club members during meeting on November 11th, 2009. So if you are an applicant for the Club's membership, please, plan to attend the meeting. There will be an election of Club's officers that day - so, it is a very good reason to come and vote.
I am trying to follow events in Europe. Well, there is a lot of propaganda which targets Polish history and Polish minorities in order to cover local government failures. Here are some examples. Russia's national Independence Day celebrates the expulsion of Polish troops from Moscow in 1612. Its propaganda depicts Poland as the biggest foe of Russian foreign policy in
Europe. In that way they need not explain why their GNP dropped 15% in 2009.Some Lithuanian officials are trying to prove that Vilnius, the capital city, was under Polish occupation in XIX century. Of course, that time Poland did not exist as a state. It belonged to the
Russia Empire. Vilnius was predominantly populated by Poles until 1950s. It was given to Lithuania by Stalin in 1939 because they agreed to Red Army garrisons on their territory. Just a few months later, Stalin annexed Lithuania to Soviet Union for 50 years. This year Lithuanian GNP dropped 20%.Dictator of Belarus, former chairman of "kolhoz" (soviet collective farm), publicly refers to the independent Union of Poles in
Belarus as potential traitors. It is the country where independent thinking is quite dangerous. Its GNP is down 10%.In Poland, local Germans have their minority status (schools, radio & TV programs) as required per European Union regulations. Unfortunately, Poles in Germany do not have that right because of the outstanding Hitler's law delegalizing Polish organizations. At least, Mutti Angela ("mother Angela" - that's how Germans nick-named their "bundeskanzelerin") promised to abolish this law. By the way, it does not matter to Germans that one of Angela Merkel's grandmothers was a Pole.
In the Club we have quite a few members of other descent than Polish and we all get along just fine. I wished that politicians were just like us in this respect.
2nd VICE PRESIDENT – Halina Kosinski
First and foremost, I would like to thank Henrietta Nemecek and everyone who helped with the rummage sale and all of you who donated merchandise for the event. It brought us about $800 in income for the club. Thank you everyone involved. It was a great team effort.
Rose Pachura, Rose Offerman and Pat Jayo did a great job with the silent auction, during Polka Weekend with The Knews. That was fun for all and brought us some more needed income. Thank you very much ladies. Good team effort!
November signals the dramatic transition from the beautiful autumn weather and outdoor activities to a fast-paced countdown to the most busy time of the year.
Nov. 1st – Sunday
– We are having a Halloween dance, a spill over of the October tradition. I thought it would be a good idea to serve Kapusniak (cabbage stew with pork chunks and a slice of Polish Sausage) with boiled potatoes – lower in calories and easy to digest, to leave more room for a special desert treat.Nov. 7th – Saturday
– Our 70th Anniversary dinner and dance. We will have a buffet style dinner with 3 main courses, side dishes and salad choices. Our decadent desert buffet will be hard to say NO to. We will also have numerous interesting prizes for our raffle.Nov. 15th – Sunday
– After the meeting we will serve Hungarian Goulash with potato dumplings (Kopytka) and steamed vegetable.Nov. 29th – Sunday
– we will be serving Barley Soup and BBQ pork roast sandwich with pastry and coffee or tea.You can also call Halina for reservations until the Wednesday before the event at 623-487-9821 or 602-909-4965.
