*President's Corner*

Dear Members and Friends,

At the time of this writing we just finished our two day Harvest Festival which was an abysmal disaster. For the two days and all the preparations in the kitchen and the hall, we did not go over 100 guests. The kitchen sold about $245 worth of food.  Folks – that’s for both days. And we had to pay for 4 bands! You all know that the bands don’t play for free – don’t you?

That is very disheartening for all of us who work very hard in bringing you the entertainment and the food, we feel, would please anyone. In addition, there were only 15 members present on Sunday, as we keep track at the door. And that was the better of the two days. That, too, was abysmal.

Folks, we cannot keep doing this for our own entertainment and exercise.   By OUR, I mean those of us who work very diligently in organizing these events for YOU, our valued members and supporters.

Sometimes, and this is the time, trying to be positive just does not work, as there is nothing positive to be derived from this experience other than a valuable lesson–WE WILL NOT DO THIS AGAIN! This experiment failed.

On a similar note, your elected officers and members of the organizing committee have reconsidered organizing a big banquet for our 70th anniversary, which was scheduled for November 7th.

We will, instead, scale it down to a buffet dinner and put together some raffle items and will call it a fundraising event to celebrate our 70th Anniversary.  We will ask you to pay a little extra as we will still make it more special than any other event. We will try to get some additional entertainment in addition to The Varitones performing for your dancing pleasure.

I hope that we will not have to resort to organizing dances for the Hispanic community, just to keep the doors open and continue to pay our bills.

I’m not trying to be funny, just realistic, as you elected me and the rest of the Board to take care of the business of the club for our posterity and for future generations so that there is a Pulaski Club for your children and grand children.

Sorry for having to be so brutally honest and direct in my message, this month.  However, it may be the right time to, so to speak, awake the sleeping giant.

We are organizing a rummage sale on Friday and Saturday, October 9th and 10th.  There is more on this subject elsewhere in this newsletter so please read carefully and, please, help out if you can.

Let’s make the rest of this year much more memorable for YOU, our members and for US too, your elected officers, as we too, need some smiles in our lives.

Your President Casimir Kosinski

Just a note from the president:

1st VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:

Please, join me in a warm welcom to our three new members – Judy Cioper, Daniel Malinowski, Thomas Jayjack. Judy, Daniel and Thomas - enjoy our club.

Last month was 70th anniversary of the beginning of the WWII on September 1st, 1939. Stalin and Hitler signed non-aggression pact between themselves in August 1939.  It also contained a secret agreement that 2 weeks after the Germany invades Poland, Soviet Union will attack Poland also. It happened on September 17, 1939. Nazi crimes are rather well known.

It is not so with Stalin’s atrocities directed against Poles. After crossing the border Red Army and NKVD was hunting for Polish social elite. So called “white-hands” (people with hands without signs of hard manual labor) were arrested, sent to a Gulag or just shot to death in a near-by forest. It is estimated that about 1.5 million Poles (usually whole families) were sent to Gulags. Most of them perished due to hunger, cold and hard labor.  In 1940 NKVD executed about 30,000 Polish military officers – POWs. They were mostly reservists. In civil life they were doctors, professors, lawyers etc. During the Nuremberg trial of Nazi leader - Russians called it the genocide on the Polish Nation done by Germans.

In Polish literature and memoirs Stalin’s Russia has been called “the inhumane land”. A few years ago, Yeltzin publicly admitted Soviet guilt in the murders. Now Russian government denies any genocide and accuses Poland of secretly conspiring with Hitler and bases it on the article in the French communist newspaper. According to Putin, Poland was unreasonable in dealing with Hitler and caused WWII. It also says that sending 1.5 million Poles to gulags and executing POWs was not a genocide but only a small war crime by rogue element in their government (of cause all perpetrators are already dead). It also denies that during Battle of Great Britain, Luftwaffe flew its missions using Russian fuel.

It raises the issue of death of 12,000 soviet servicemen due to cholera etc. in Polish POW camps in 1920. Again, it does not want to mention that unlike in Russia, in Poland there were no “voshoboykee” (louse killing booths on every major streets in Russia). It is not a joke. Stalin did not care about personal hygiene of his people. On the other hand, it was very hard to get an immediate control of cholera spread by lice in POW camps while Red Army was attacking Warsaw City.

To make his point clear, Putin has ordered heavy military exercises near the Polish border to the scenario – there is a successful Polish uprising in Grodno City (Belarus) and it is spreading to other cities.

Well, I do not have to look in Putin’s eyes to see his soul – I have understood the soul of this KGB colonel for a long time.
