*President's Corner*
Dear Fellow Members and Friends,
The hot weather is almost behind us and we’re starting off our last four months of this year with our Members Meeting and Dance with Bob Doszak, on September 13th.
I trust that you all had a nice summer and managed to stay cool either by staying indoors or going away to a cooler climate. Either way, you must be starved for some good ol’ Pulaski Club home cooking and some good times, dancing to the variety of bands that we have to offer. Please check our schedule for the rest of 2009.
Your elected officers along with additional volunteers have been working on the preparations for our Gala 70th Anniversary Banquet, which will take place on November 7th, 2009. Mailings will be coming out in the middle of September for your reservations and any contribution you may want to make to our Commemorative Booklet, call Dennis P.
When you receive the invitation, please respond promptly and reserve your tickets or the entire table as we’re expecting a full house with some special entertainment and great food. We are limiting the number of tickets to 200 as not to be overcrowded.
Speaking of anniversaries, our members, Helen and Edward Juszynski, just celebrated their 50th Anniversary with a beautiful luncheon and dance in Sun City West. Congratulations Ed and Helen!
Halina Kosinski along with Chez and Barbara Falkowski and Ziggy Korsak
spent one afternoon clearing all the items from the storage room to accommodate a new and improved storage system which is being built and installed by Bruno Klus and his crew. This needed to be done for a long time and it will make things flow a lot smoother once completed. This includes re-activating the back door to the storage room facilitating much easier access to the supplies and the freezer, from the kitchen.
On that same note, Frank Tomaszkowicz, one of our Board of Directors, has acquired a newer, commercial duty, upright freezer for the club. A big improvement! Thanks Frank!
Thanks to all those who have been working to better our club for you, our members and our patrons. Please plan on attending all our functions and enjoy the hospitality and camaraderie of our Pulaski Club. We love to see those seats filled and all the food sold out each and every time.
Just a Note from the president:
The Board of Elected Officers and the Organizing Committee for the 70th Anniversary Banquet has decided to downsize the event and the celebration and will offer a festive Buffet Dinner with special entertainment and a dance featuring an expanded 6 piece band, The Varitones. This will be a fundraiser for the Pulaski Club and I hope that you will attend and support us.

1st VICE PRESIDENT - Chez Falkowski:
Dennis Pachura sent me a list of persons whose membership dues are subject to remittance. It is a long list. I will send e-mails or place a note on a paper copy of this newsletter as a reminder. We would love to keep as a member! We’d appreciate if you mail your dues to the Club or pay Dennis in person.
I would like to mention a new custom developing in Warsaw and some other major cities in Poland. On the 2nd day of August at 5:00 pm, there are loud sounds of sirens and pedestrian/vehicle traffic stops totally for a few minutes. In Warsaw, if an absent minded driver or pedestrian does not comply then he or she may get into an unpleasant confrontation which may escalate quickly to quite a nasty one. So, if you are there at such time – just follow the golden rule: “When in Rome do as the Romans do”. It started a few years ago. Now it is the custom. It commemorates the beginning of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, when about 30,000 soldiers of the underground pro-western Home Army (Armia Krajowa) fought bravely with Hitler’s best troops for 63 days in spite of poor armament and total lack of support from the soviet Red Army, which stopped their offensive just across the Vistula River. Stalin did not agree to any kind of aid to the Uprising. He already had plans to install, in Warsaw, a communist government headed mostly by non-Poles. You may find more information regarding the Uprising on the pages: http://1944.wp.pl or www.warsawuprising. com. By the way, September 1st is a special day in Europe. In most countries the schools start classes on this day and it is an anniversary of the start of WW-II, and commemorated with official events.
2nd VICE PRESIDENT – Halina Kosinski

- Golabki (stuffed cabbage rolls) in tomato sauce, mashed potatoes and pastry with coffee or tea.I am looking forward to seeing you all after the long break.
Thanks you all for supporting our kitchen.
Treasurer – Mary Kiselus

Welcome back club members and friends, what did you this summer? That’s the question we all get asked, and I’m looking forward to hear some of the interesting places and adventures you’ve been on. The upcoming polka season will kick off with a meeting and dance September 13th with music provided by Bob Doszak and then the Harvest Festival dance weekend Sept 19th and 20th. Featuring The Varitones band, Bob Doszak band, and John Smoltz band. Over the summer months I’ve received many calls about club activities and hall rental availability, looks like the word is getting out about our club. Not much work done this year over the summer I guess we’ll save that for our kitchen remodel for the summer of 2010. What to do on Friday nights? Any ideas let me know, the club is closed on Friday nights so why not spark up some type of entertainment. Maybe some ballroom dancing, karaoke, euro disco music…? I will not be able to attend the September membership meeting (playing in Sun City West) but one of the other Board Members will be able to answer any questions you may have about the upcoming season, club issues or send me an e-mail. If you haven’t already donated a spot in our upcoming anniversary commemorative booklet, I will have blank letters and order forms at the front door for you and your friends to donate to the club anniversary banquet or contact me and I’ll e-mail you one. Once again thank you for your support.·
